The charity book collection within the Goodnight project is spreading across Ukraine!

In September, educational institutions of Kyiv region [http://surl.li/ewojeg] joined the collection of books for displaced children, thanks to the support of the Kyiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education of Pedagogical Personnel, which took care of organisational issues.

We sincerely thank the Department of Education and Science of Brovary District [http://surl.li/fdgfcp], Hnidyn Lyceum named after Petro Yatsyk [http://surl.li/amiyth], the Department of Education of Irpin City Council [http://surl.li/qzswfr], the Centre for Professional Development of Teachers of Irpin City Council and educational institutions of Irpin community that joined the collection!

By 1 December, we will pass the baton to Cherkasy region.

We invite the ОІППО and education departments of all regions of Ukraine to collect books in December.

Together, we will give little Ukrainians abroad a holiday of the Ukrainian word this Christmas.

We would like to thank the volunteers from the school http://kiterra.kiev.ua/ for their help in sorting the books!

When we write about book donations, the work of volunteers usually goes unmentioned. However, without their help, the project would not have been possible. It is especially gratifying to see how actively Ukrainian children are involved in the volunteer movement! Today, we would like to thank the students and teacher of KITERRA School for their help, who devoted several hours of their time to sorting books for the Goodnight project: Alina, Amina, Ulyana and Tymofiy!

“All the books have different textures, fonts and contents, and I savour each one, albeit for a short time. It must have been the same feeling Scrooge had when he was sorting through the gold coins,” writes Alina Tuz about her volunteer experience with the books. It sounds very poetic, although the work is actually not that easy – it requires care, concentration and even physical strength.

The literature that is immediately eliminated is books in Russian. Next, the “face control” assesses the condition of the book: its neatness, whether all pages are present, whether there is any damage, etc. Our volunteers diligently follow the short instructions. The conveyor starts to work faster and faster (inspect – sort into the appropriate pile – stamp – put into a box) and the time flies by.

As a result:
260 books are ready for shipment, including 10 for adults.
We rejected 20 copies for recycling (substandard and hate speech).
Our collection is ongoing, and we invite educational institutions, companies and organisations to participate!

To donate books for children or initiate a collection at your location, please contact the coordinator Tetyana Oblakevych at press@eif.org.ua or via personal messages on the project page.

Anyone can also send books to the Nova Poshta branch #58 in Kyiv. For more details, please contact Tetiana.

Russian terror against education: schools fall into ruins under enemy fire

Russian terror against education: schools fall into ruins under enemy fire

Ukraine’s educational institutions are once again being targeted by Russia’s barbaric attacks:

On the night of 8 November, Russian kamikaze drones attacked Odesa. Lyceum No. 125, one of the oldest schools in the city, was damaged. Windows were smashed, the roof was destroyed, furniture and the heating system were damaged. The place where children were supposed to learn is now just cold and ruins.

On 11 November in Kramatorsk, one of the shells hit a sports ground in the school yard. The blast wave destroyed the windows, damaged the doors and left a deep crater in the asphalt. The educational space was turned into a place of grief.

On the morning of 14 November, Sloviansk came under fire. Rockets damaged a kindergarten and a pedagogical university. Only rubble and pain remained where the future was supposed to develop.

Education is our weapon against the darkness. The enemy can destroy the walls, but it will never break our will to learn and be free.
