STEAM STATUS
International STEAM Standardization of Educational Institutions in Ukraine
Preparing Educational Institutions for STEAM Education
The STEAM STATUS project, run by the Educational Initiatives Foundation, focuses on the systemic development of STEAM education within Ukrainian institutions. Its primary objective is to assist schools and other educational establishments in creating an environment where modern technology, the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, and creative disciplines can be integrated into the daily learning process.
As part of the project, educational institutions are assessed for their readiness to implement STEM/STEAM approaches, identifying their existing strengths and opportunities for further development.
Educators as the Foundation for Change
A distinct focus area of STEAM STATUS is the support of educators, as it is the teacher who transforms equipment, technologies, and new educational approaches into a tangible learning experience for the child. Consequently, the project engages not only with educational institutions as entities but also with teams of educators who implement STEAM approaches, refine their own teaching practices, and cultivate an appropriate environment within their schools.
This approach entails the exchange of expertise among educators, the involvement of the professional STEM community, and the creation of conditions for the emergence of teams capable of independently advancing this field within their own institutions. A notable outcome is the formation of “STEAM TEAMS”—groups of educators who possess practical experience in developing innovative education and can serve as a benchmark for other institutions. By empowering educators, the project creates an opportunity to scale modern methodologies: a single well-trained teacher can apply these approaches to a large number of students over the course of many years.
