What is the Cyber Resilience Index?
The Cyber Resilience Index (CReI) is a digital self-assessment tool for cyber resilience, developed by the Educational Initiatives Foundation for Ukrainian small and medium-sized enterprises. It is designed to enable company leaders—without requiring specialized technical training—to evaluate their organization’s preparedness for cyberattacks, digital disruptions, and other risks associated with digital systems. On the official portal, the CReI is described as a “pulse” check for a company’s cyber resilience, revealing its current status and helping to identify priority steps for improvement. The Foundation positions the CReI not as a technical information security audit, but as an accessible management tool for executives. It is specifically tailored for companies that lack dedicated IT staff or large cybersecurity budgets; consequently, the questions are formulated without complex technical jargon.
Why the Fund created this tool
The Foundation attributes the need for CReI to the fact that Ukrainian companies operate amidst the simultaneous impact of war, digitalization, and large-scale cyber threats. Businesses are becoming increasingly dependent on email, banking systems, digital documents, cloud services, websites, CRM systems, messaging apps, and other information systems; consequently, issues with digital infrastructure directly affect a company’s ability to function. The CReI portal identifies potential consequences of such issues, including the loss of data and funds, a halt in sales, reputational risks, and an over-reliance on specific employees who are the sole possessors of critical knowledge.
